Juvenile Bald Eagle Running

June 2009 - Spanish Bank Beach West, Vancouver, BC Canada

We are lucky to come across a rather bold juvenile bald eagle. As we approached it was accompanied by an adult, but the adult flew off before we were close enough to get a quality shot.

It turns out the juvenile didn't want to leave because the tidal flats were littered with smelts, left behind from an outgoing tide. The juvenile bald eagle RUNS around, gobbling up little fish!

It's quite something to see, a big, strong eagle dashing back and forth in excitement, picking fish up off the sand. A couple of times it does take to the air, just a little bit, to get to more fish.

A good day with the camera for us!
