Other observers reported that the older of this years eaglets, by three days, had first flight. We go down to the wild bald eagle nest site at Jericho Park in the late afternoon hoping to get a good shot.
We miss the older eaglet flying above the tree tops by about ten minutes, but we do manage to have the camera set up for several fantastic shots of a very persistant younger eaglet trying to get some air!
Squaking and flapping and calling for food. Every time this nest has successful eaglets we fall in love. We can hardly believe we love each year's eaglets as much or more than the year before!
Although we didn't manage to capture images of this juvenile eaglet getting more than a foot off the branch for more than a few seconds, we learned that it actually did fly the very next morning. We will be down to the nest site as much as possible to get the two eaglets flying and exploring the beach front.
